So what’s this Superballs thing?

It’s not easy to explain without giving you…

a history

In the spring of 2009, three friends—Frank, Jon, and Kayti—worked together at your favorite neighborhood Chipotle (back when Chipotle was at the peak of greatness). Living in the same apartment building, they quickly became best friends, spending time together before and after work. One evening in April, after ordering some pizza and hanging out, Frank brought his MacBook Pro and suggested they “try out” podcasting. His interest was more in learning the production side of things, but what started as a fun experiment turned into the very first episode of what would later become the Superballs Podcast—with the help of Kayti’s cat, Huey Lewis, who definitely played a key role in the magic.

Fast forward to the summer of 2010: the trio, this time with gyros in hand, revisited their initial recording and decided they could totally do a podcast. The plan? Invite friends, co-workers, maybe even their boss Dave, and create fun segments like “Sports with Felix.” From then until 2013, the Superballs Podcast ran as a non-live show published on iTunes. The shows were few in number but full of heart—genuine, special, and always a blast.

Life, as it often does, got in the way. After graduating, Kayti left the show to focus on her professional career. Jon eventually moved back to his hometown, and in 2013, podcasting together remotely just wasn’t as easy as it is today. The project was shelved.

n 2019, Frank was approached by his comedian coworker Jeff, who wanted to bring the show back to life. Together, they restarted the Superballs Podcast, recording from their office in downtown Chicago with friends and colleagues as guests. It was short-lived, though, as Jeff moved away during the spring of 2020 amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Undeterred, Frank reached out to his college friend Nick, and together, they decided to take a more structured approach by hiring co-hosts. By the fall of 2020, they had brought on Ally and Amanda, breathing new life into the project. As time passed, Amanda left, and by the spring of 2021, they welcomed Wasi and Leah into the team, shifting the podcast toward the paranormal with a new spin-off: Late Night Legends. Inspired by paranormal radio icons like Art Bell and George Noory, the team found its groove in exploring spooky stories and conspiracy theories.

Throughout 2021, the podcast continued to evolve, with Mic joining as a host. The team carried on, producing captivating content that blended humor and the supernatural.

By 2022, there were more changes. Kara, Jeni, and Shaina joined the team, adding their own talents as hosts and a Mythos Keeper. However, in the winter of that year, Leah left the show, followed by Mic and Wasi, each pursuing different creative paths. Nick also stepped down, although he and Wasi remain connected to the project.

n 2023, Kara, Jeni, and Tressa decided to move on, launching their own podcast called Into the Obscure—definitely worth checking out if you love spooky content. Around the same time, James and Ashley joined the team, helping carry the torch of Late Night Legends. Though Ashley has since moved on to other endeavors, James remained a valued member of the team.

By 2024, the podcast welcomed a new wave of talent with Kimberly, Joan, Charlie, and Jessiy joining as hosts. Their arrival marked an exciting new chapter for Late Night Legends, bringing fresh energy and perspectives that keep the show engaging and innovative.

And so, the Late Night Legends Podcast continues to evolve, guided by a love for the paranormal, mystery, and fun. What started as three friends in an apartment experimenting with podcasting has become a unique show with a growing community—and we're excited to see what the future holds!

TL;DR
Late Night Legends is a spinoff of The Superballs Podcast.
